Lorelei Ensemble & Pilobolus Bring Exciting Artistic Collaboration to Potash Hill
November 22, 2024
In January, Lorelei Ensemble, a vocal group that creates and champions bold artistic work for women in music, comes to Potash Hill with modern-dance company Pilobolus for an exciting artistic collaboration. From January 12-20, these two acclaimed performing arts groups will be doing deep creative work together on our Vermont campus in preparation for their upcoming performances of renowned composer David Lang’s Love Fail.
Lorelei and Pilobolus’s breathtaking, fresh performance of Lang’s 2012 work will feature an expanded 8-voice version, written for and premiered by Lorelei Ensemble, and new choreography by Pilobolus Co-Artistic Director Renée Jaworski, which heightens the live performance with contemporary, physical expressions of love lost, and endured. The music and libretto pull together narratives of love from such sources as Lydia Davis, Marie de France, Gottfried von Strassburg, Béroul, Thomas of Britain, and Richard Wagner.
Heralded for its “full-bodied and radiant sound” (New York Times) and “stunning precision of harmony, intonation, and . . . spectacular virtuosity” (Gramophone Magazine), Lorelei Ensemble is recognized across the globe for its bold and inventive programs that champion the extraordinary flexibility and virtuosity of the human voice. Led by founder and artistic director Beth Willer, Lorelei has established an inspiring mission, curating culturally-relevant and artistically audacious programs that stretch and challenge the expectations of artists and audiences alike.
