Grammy-Winning Catalyst Quartet to Perform March 15 Residency Concert
February 26, 2025
We are delighted to welcome the Grammy Award-winning Catalyst String Quartet to campus for a March residency that is part of Marlboro Music’s new artist residency program. Their visit culminates with a free concert for the community, on Saturday, March 15 at 2 pm in Ragle Hall. The ensemble will perform music by 18th century French composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint Georges, one of the first-known classical music composers of African descent.
Admission is free, but due to the popularity of these performances, reservations are now required. Please follow the link to reserve your seats. Seating is general admission (first come, first served). We hope you can join us!
Marlboro Music’s artist residency program brings exceptional emerging artists and ensembles to campus for deep creative work and informal concert offerings. The Catalyst Quartet, which features Marlboro Music participant Abi Fayette (2017-19, 2024), will use their residency to continue work on their multi-volume album project, UNCOVERED, which aims to record the music of historically important Black composers.
Since beginning this project in 2017, the Catalyst Quartet has released three albums and are currently working on the fourth and final album, which will include all 18 of the string quartets of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint Georges. During their residency on Potash Hill, the ensemble will dive deeply into these works, honing their interpretations in preparation for their recording.
Hailed by The New York Times at its Carnegie Hall debut as “invariably energetic and finely burnished… playing with earthy vigor,” the Grammy Award-winning Catalyst Quartet was founded by the internationally acclaimed Sphinx Organization in 2010. The ensemble believes in the unity that can be achieved through music and imagine their programs and projects with this in mind, redefining and reimagining the classical music experience.
